Eisenbud Lecture Series in Mathematics and Physics
| The Eisenbud Lecture Series is funded by a generous bequest to Brandeis University from Leonard and Ruth-Jean Eisenbud. The lecture series will be given annually at Brandeis by a distinguished mathematician or physicist. The second series will take place on March 18-20, 2008, and will feature Andrei Okounkov of Princeton University. The series is entitled The Algebra of Random Surfaces.
Andrei Okounkov is a professor of mathematics at Princeton University. He received the 2006 Fields Medal for pioneering and creative work with important consequences for combinatorics, algebraic geometry, statistical physics, and string theory. Lecture 1: Tuesday March 18 at 4PM; a wine and cheese etc reception in Volen Bridge will follow. All talks will occur in the Abelson-Bass-Yalem building at Brandeis, room 131. Directions to Brandeis and links to campus maps can be found here. Brandeis is also accessible by public bus and the MBTA commuter rail (the Fitchburg/South Acton line). |
